Your last check-up

Salads, Walks, Less Butter… and the Same Numbers?

If this is you, you’re in very good company.

Notes from the doctor’s office

  • “Let’s keep an eye on this.”
  • The numbers crept up again, even with the changes you made
  • You left with more questions than answers
  • You’d like a natural daily habit to talk over with your doctor
  • You’re done guessing which “heart-healthy” label to trust

None of this means you’ve failed. As we get older, the way our bodies make and clear cholesterol changes, and so does the way we handle sugar after a meal. Good habits still matter. Many people simply want a little more support from nature.

Which brings us to a sour little fruit from southern Italy, one the local cooks won’t touch and scientists won’t leave alone.

Why this fruit is special

Not All Citrus Is Created Equal. Bergamot Is Different.

Oranges and lemons are good for you. But bergamot carries an unusual mix of flavanones, the plant compounds behind its bitter bite.

Two of them, brutieridin and melitidin, are rarely found in any other citrus. Researchers study them for their role in normal cholesterol metabolism.*

Scientists in Calabria spent years studying this mix. They call it the bergamot polyphenolic fraction, or BPF. In the human studies, people took 500 to 1,000 mg a day. Every serving of ours gives you 1,000 mg of patented BergaMonte®: 38% flavanones and up to 80% total polyphenols.

The research, in plain English

What Happened When People Actually Took It

BergaMonte®’s bergamot polyphenolic fraction (BPF) has been tested in 11 published human clinical trials. Here are three of the most useful findings, without the jargon.

A researcher in a lab coat reviewing results with a study participant, with bergamot fruit and sample vials on the table
237 adults

The first big human study

Italian researchers gave adults with raised blood fats 500 or 1,000 mg of bergamot polyphenol fraction (BPF) a day for 30 days. On average their cholesterol and triglyceride results improved, HDL went up and fasting blood sugar came down.

Mollace V et al. Fitoterapia 2011;82(3):309-16
1,000 mg a day

The same daily amount as our bottle

A second 30-day study used 1,000 mg of BPF a day, the amount in one serving of ours. In the group taking BPF on its own (some other groups also took a statin), cholesterol ratios improved and markers of oxidative stress in the blood vessels went down.

Gliozzi M et al. Int J Cardiol 2013;170(2):140-5
9 trials

The big picture

A 2026 review pooled 9 controlled trials with 615 people. Across different bergamot extracts, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar moved in a healthy direction. The authors say the studies are still small and more are needed.

Chambari M et al. Food Sci Nutr 2026;14(9):e72357

Average change across 9 controlled trials (615 people)

mg/dL, average change

What the researchers measured, mostly in adults who started with high numbers. Not a promise of your results.

Triglycerides−52.5
Total cholesterol−44.7
LDL cholesterol−39.5
Fasting blood sugar−12.1
HDL (“good”) cholesterol+5.6

Pooled averages in mg/dL from studies of several bergamot extracts, mostly in adults whose numbers were already high. The authors rate the certainty as low and call for more research. Individual results vary.

Chambari M et al. Food Sci Nutr 2026;14(9):e72357 (meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials)

The fine print: the first two studies used BPF, the same patented bergamot fraction that goes into our BergaMonte® extract. The review pooled several bergamot extracts. Most people in these studies started with numbers that were already high, and results varied from person to person. Bergamot is a daily support, not a replacement for anything your doctor prescribes. Talk to your doctor before use, especially if you take cholesterol or blood-sugar medication.

The doctor behind the research

The research behind the extract: Prof. Vincenzo Mollace, MD

Prof. Vincenzo Mollace, MD, earned his medical degree in 1983 and trained in cardiology in Milan. He went on to spend his career as a professor of pharmacology, and today he runs a research center at the University Magna Græcia in Calabria, in the middle of bergamot country.

His team led the first human studies of the bergamot polyphenolic fraction, or BPF. That’s the same fraction our patented BergaMonte® extract is made from. So every capsule carries the extract his research was built on, not a random bergamot powder.

Before you buy any bergamot

Be a Label Detective: Turn the Bottle Around

Bergamot got popular fast, and plenty of bottles now say “bergamot” on the front. Turn them around.

Many never say how much of the good stuff, the polyphenols, is actually inside. Some use an unnamed “proprietary” extract. Few are organic.

We wanted one we’d give our own families. Organic. Standardized. Named on the label. Tested, with the lab report published. So that’s the only kind we make.

03

Keep going every day

Bergamot works over weeks, not hours. After a few months, ask your doctor to recheck your numbers.*

Straight answers

Your Questions, Answered

How do I take it?

Two capsules once a day, about 30 minutes before a meal. That’s the full 1,000 mg serving on the label. One bottle lasts 30 days. If supplements upset your stomach, take them right after a meal, or start with 1 capsule a day for the first week and then go to 2.

When will I notice a difference?

Bergamot isn’t a quick fix you feel the next morning. In the human studies, people took it daily and had their numbers rechecked after about 30 days or longer. The best way to see what it does for you is to take it every day and ask your doctor to recheck your routine blood work.*

I take cholesterol or blood-sugar medication. Can I take this?

Talk to your doctor first, and never stop or change a prescription on your own. Bring the bottle to your appointment so your doctor can see exactly what’s in it.

What is BergaMonte®?

BergaMonte® is a patented bergamot extract made from Calabrian bergamot fruit and standardized for its polyphenols. It’s the ingredient named on our label, and it’s made from the bergamot polyphenolic fraction (BPF) used in the Italian human studies on this page.

Is it really organic?

Yes. It’s USDA Organic, certified by PCO (Pennsylvania Certified Organic), and it’s the only USDA Organic certified citrus bergamot supplement we know of in the US. The capsule is organic pullulan, a plant-based capsule, with an organic rice blend. No gelatin.

Will it taste like Earl Grey tea?

No. Bergamot oil flavors Earl Grey, but this is an extract of the whole fruit in a capsule. You swallow it with water; there’s no taste.

Which package should I choose?

Most people choose 3 bottles ($39 a bottle) or 6 bottles ($29 a bottle), because bergamot is meant to be taken every day and both ship free. One bottle ($49) is a good way to try it.

What if it’s not for me?

You’re covered by our 90-day money-back guarantee. If you’re not happy, contact us within 90 days for the cost of the product back or a free replacement.

A note from our team

From a Calabrian Grove to Your Morning Routine

We started Nourishing Nutrients believing nature knows best and that you deserve to know exactly what’s in the bottle. Bergamot is the product that shows it best.

Bergamot is fussy. It wants the mild winters, sea breezes and long sun of one narrow strip of southern Italy, and for generations farmers grew it only for the fragrant oil in its peel. The bitter fruit inside, the part nobody ate, turned out to be where the polyphenols live. Now it’s two organic capsules you can take with breakfast. No mystery blend, no fillers, a lab report you can read yourself.

Take it every day for three months. Talk it over with your doctor. Then decide for yourself at your next check-up. If it isn’t for you, our guarantee has you covered.

With care, the Nourishing Nutrients team

P.S. Bergamot is a daily habit, so the 3- and 6-bottle packs are the ones that make sense. They ship free and bring the price down to $39 or $29 a bottle, and every order is covered by our 90-day money-back guarantee.
